USW President Seeks Dismissal of U. S. Steel Lawsuit
02/05/2025 - The president of the United Steelworkers union has asked a judge to toss out a lawsuit against him, calling it frivolous, reports the Reuters news service.
According to Reuters, union president David McCall argues that the lawsuit, filed by United States Steel Corporation and Nippon Steel Corp., is a “frivolous and unsubstantiated attack” on the union for exercising its First Amendment right to free speech.
The steel companies sued McCall after former President Joe Biden blocked the sale of U. S. Steel to Nippon Steel, contending that the union worked with rival Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. to thwart the sale.
