USW Members to Vote on Tentative Contracts at Gerdau’s Sand Springs and Calvert City Plants
10/01/2007 - Members of the United Steelworkers reach tentative agreements at Gerdau Ameristeel plants in Sand Springs, Okla., and Calvert City, Ky., with ratification votes scheduled for Friday and this Tuesday.
Members of the United Steelworkers (USW) have reached tentative agreements at Gerdau Ameristeel plants in Sand Springs, Okla., and Calvert City, Ky.
Members of USW Local 2741, which represents 275 workers at the company’s Sand Springs location, had reached their tentative agreement the previous week but delayed the ratification vote in solidarity with Calvert City workers in an effort to help USW Local 9447-5 reach an agreement covering its 135 members.
A secret ballot ratification vote held Friday (Sep. 28) in Sand Springs will be followed by a separate vote this Tuesday (Oct. 2) at Calvert City. Details of the agreements are being withheld until after the members have been briefed and the ballots counted.
“These two contracts conclude a round of bargaining that began three years ago with labor agreements at 12 locations in the U.S. and Canada,” said Jim Stewart, USW Director of Collective Bargaining and lead negotiator for the union.
The tentative agreements cover some 400 USW members at the two Gerdau Ameristeel plants.
