USW, ISU Officers to Sign Merger Agreement

Officers of the United Steelworkers (USW) will meet with Independent Steelworkers Union (ISU) executives and stewards on Friday, April 13 to sign a merger agreement.

The meeting, which will take place at USW Headquarters, will be attended by USW International President Leo W. Gerard, International Secretary-Treasurer James D. English, and District 1 Director Dave McCall, as well as ISU President Mark Glyptis and ISU executive committee members and stewards.USW District 8 Director Billy Thompson and U.S. Sen. Jay Rockefeller (D-W.Va.) are scheduled to speak via telephone hookup.

The ISU represents 1300 workers at Mittal Steel’s Weirton, W.Va., mill. Members of the ISU voted 913 to 89 to merge with the USW.
