USS Posco Celebrates 20th Anniversary

June 28, 2006 — UPI (USS-Posco Industries) recently celebrated its 20th anniversary.

During the anniversary ceremony, in which about 300 Posco personnel participated, UPO President Robert Smith thanked U. S. Steel for sharing constant interest and support to the development of UPI, and Posco for supplying quality hot-rolled coils for the last 20 years.

Honorary Chairman Tae-joon Park, the founder of UPI, said, “Twenty years ago, we established UPI by integrating the strengths and supplementing the weaknesses of USX and Posco to pursue Win-Win.” He asked UPI to continue to develop within the world’s steel market.

UPI, which has purchased hot-rolled coils from Posco and U. S. Steel for the last 20 years, has made a solid contribution to the stable operation and cost reduction of its two parent companies. UPI is currently planning to improve some of its aged facilities and rationalize its production for higher competitiveness.

Located in Pittsburg, Calif., USS Posco is the West Coast’s largest cold-rolled steelmaker and only tinplate supplier. UPI produces about 1,350,000 tons of steel plates, including 450,000 tons of tinplates and 550,000 tons of hot dip galvanized steel.
