Usiminas to Temporarily Idle Two Blast Furnaces
05/29/2015 - Usinas Siderúrgicas de Minas Gerais S.A. (Usiminas) informed its shareholders in a press release on 18 May of its plans to temporarily shut down two blast furnaces, the No. 1 at Cubatão Plant and the No. 1 at the Ipatinga plant, from 31 May and 4 June 2015, respectively.
Thus, the company’s pig iron output will be reduced by 120 thousand tons per month. The adjustment aims to adapt production to the current demand rate of the steel market, bringing cost reduction opportunities and improving the competitiveness of Usiminas in the current marketplace scenario.
