Universal Stainless, Carpenter Technology to Increase Stainless and Alloy Prices

Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. has announced base price increases of 3% to 5% on all stainless and high-strength low alloy grade products manufactured at its Bridgeville and Dunkirk facilities. The increase will be effective with all new orders entered on June 1, 2008.

“The price adjustment is necessary to offset the impact of sharply higher energy and operating supply costs as we focus on responding to continued strong market demand,” commented Chris Zimmer, Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “This action will enable us to continue our reinvestment in equipment and facilities to better serve our customers.”

The company noted that its current material and energy surcharges would remain in effect.

Carpenter Technology Corp. also announced base price increases averaging 7% on all premium-melted alloys and 3 to 6% for specialty stainless steels in all product forms. Carpenter said its increases, which will be effective for orders placed on or after June 1, 2008, are due to increased operating costs.

Headquartered in Bridgeville, Pa., Universal Stainless & Alloy Products, Inc. manufactures and markets a broad line of semi-finished and finished specialty steels, including stainless steel, tool steel and certain other alloyed steels. The company's products are sold to rerollers, forgers, service centers, original equipment manufacturers and wire redrawers.
