Union Ratifies Labor Agreement With Canadian Wire Rod Maker
02/20/2017 - The United Steelworkers union has ratified a new three-year labor agreement with Canada’s Ivaco Rolling Mills, the union has announced.
The agreements cover approximately 370 in two locals at the company’s Ontario plant, which makes billets and wire rod.
"These collective agreements recognize the hard work and contributions our members make every day to the success of this operation," said Marty Warren, the union’s Ontario director, in a statement.
"These were challenging but professional negotiations and the results provide a foundation for a productive labor management relationship going forward."
According to the union, the contracts provide for wage increases of CA$1.50 to CA$3 per hour for production employees and CA$3.82 to CA$7.11 per hour for trades positions. In addition, a new provision provides for retention premiums of up to CA$2 per hour for key positions.
The agreements also offer improvements to long-term disability coverage, vision care and life insurance, the union said, as well as new protections from contracting out positions.
