UAW Takes Strike Authorization Vote Against Big 3 Automakers
08/25/2023 - Members of the United Auto Workers have empowered union leaders to call strikes, if deemed necessary, as they negotiate new contracts with General Motors, Ford and Stellantis.
CNBC reported Friday that union members overwhelmingly granted authorization, although that has typically been the case in past contract negotiations.
“Our goal is not to strike. I want to make that very clear. Our goal is to bargain good agreements for our members,” UAW president Shawn Fain said Friday, according to CNBC. “But all we’ve tried to do with this is prepare everybody in the event that we have to take action to get a fair and just contract.”
