UAW Ratifies Labor Agreement with AK Steel
08/10/2016 - The United Auto Workers union has ratified a new labor agreement at AK Steel Corp.’s Butler, Pa., USA, facility, the company has announced.
According to AK Steel, the agreement with United Auto Workers Local 3303 covers about 1,200 hourly production and maintenance employees.
“We are pleased to have reached a labor agreement at Butler Works ahead of the expiration date,” said AK Steel chief executive Roger K. Newport in a statement. “This early resolution positions us well to meet the future needs of our customers, as we continue to drive our sales of more value-added and innovative products.”
AK Steel didn’t provide any contract details. According to the union’s website, 996 ballots were cast, with nearly 58 percent in favor of the new deal.
The new collective bargaining agreement expires on 1 April 2019.
