U.S. Trade Commission OKs Rebar Tariffs
08/30/2017 - The U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) on Wednesday cleared the way for the imposition of tariffs on Taiwanese rebar and renewed anti-dumping orders on stainless sheet and strip from that country and two others.
With four commissioners voting in the affirmative, the ITC upheld its preliminary ruling that U.S. producers have suffered a material injury from dumped rebar.
The case arose in September 2016 on a complaint from Byer Steel Group, Commercial Metals Company, Gerdau, Nucor Corp. and Steel Dynamics Inc.
Taiwanese producers will face duties of 3.5%, but rebar from one other producer will face a duty of slightly more than 32%.
Also on Wednesday, the ITC found that ending existing duties on stainless sheet and strip from Taiwan, Japan and Korea likely would lead to a recurrence of injury.
