U. S. Steel Tubular to Exit DOM Tubular Products Business
01/06/2009 - United States Steel subsidiary U. S. Steel Tubular Products announces plans to close the drawn-over-mandrel lines at its Texas Operations Division and exit the DOM tubular products business.
United States Steel Corp. subsidiary U. S. Steel Tubular Products announced plans to close the drawn-over-mandrel (DOM) lines at its Texas Operations Division in Lone Star, Texas.
The company also said it will exit the DOM tubular products business, although it will produce and ship all current booked orders consistent with the original commitments. DOM products are used by automotive manufacturers, mining operations, fluid power component manufacturers and steel service centers.
U. S. Steel Tubular Products shipped approximately 50,000 tons of DOM products in 2008, representing less than 3% of the company's tubular shipments for the year.
Closure of the DOM lines, which will affect approximately 50 employees, will result in a pre-tax charge of approximately $25 million in the fourth quarter of 2008.
