U. S. Steel to Move Tech Center to former Homestead Works

United States Steel Corp. has entered into an agreement with Continental Real Estate, Inc. to purchase a building located in The Waterfront in Munhall, Pa., on the former site of U. S. Steel's Homestead Works. Terms of the sale were not disclosed.

The 191,000 square-foot building will become the new home for U. S. Steel's Research and Technology Center, which is currently located in a leased facility in Monroeville, Pa.

Originally built for and leased by Siemens Westinghouse Power Corp. for the manufacture of fuel cells, the building was never occupied. The building will be modified over the next 12 months to meet the needs of U. S. Steel's research and technology programs, with occupation scheduled for 2006.

Closing of the sale is expected to take place on Dec. 17.
