U.S. Steel to Close Tube Lines at Ohio, Texas Plants
12/21/2016 - United States Steel Corp. is permanently closing one of the two seamless tube mills at its Lorain, Ohio, plant and a welded tube mill at its Lone Star, Texas, plant, reports The Times newspaper of northwest Indiana.
“These proposed actions are strategic decisions for the company after considering a number of factors, including challenging market conditions for tubular products, reduced rig counts and unfairly traded imports," a U. S. Steel spokeswoman told the newspaper.
The No. 4 seamless mill in Lorain makes tube in outer diameters of between 1.9 inches and 4.5 inches, according to U. S. Steel’s website. The No. 1 electric-resistance welded mill in Lone Star produces pipe in outer diameters of between 2 3/8 inches and 7 inches.
