U. S. Steel to Bring Gary Works BF Back Into Service
07/01/2020 - United States Steel Corporation plans to restart an idled blast furnace on account of rising demand, reports The Times newspaper of northwest Indiana.
"U. S. Steel will commence restarting Gary Works No. 6 blast furnace after the holiday weekend consistent with the growth we have been seeing in customer demand," a company spokeswoman told the newspaper.
U. S. Steel last week gave notice that it intended to begin ramping up pellet production sooner than expected at its Minntac iron ore mine and pellet plant at the end of July.
"This is roughly one month earlier than the planned restart," a spokesperson told the Duluth (Minn.) News Tribune newspaper. "We pulled up the timeline to adjust our pellet inventory to meet demand."
