U. S. Steel Starts Pig Iron Caster
12/14/2022 - United States Steel Corporation’s US$60 million pig iron caster has produced its first batch and is beginning to ramp up, reports The Times newspaper of northwest Indiana.
"Thanks to strong leadership and tremendous collaboration across the plant and at the project site, we’re well on our way to delivering on a key aspect of our Best for All strategy and doing so safely, ahead of schedule and on budget,” Scott Buckiso, a U. S. Steel senior vice president and the chief manufacturing officer for its North American flat-rolled segment, told the newspaper.
The caster, located at its Gary Works in Indiana, is expected to enter full production in the first half of 2023.
