U. S. Steel Sets Temporary Leadership for Tubular Business
02/05/2018 - United States Steel Corporation has named senior vice president Douglas R. Matthews as the interim head of its tubular business.
Matthews, who oversees the integrated steelmaker’s industrial, service center and mining products unit, is temporarily taking over fhe day-to-day duties currently held by senior vice president David Rintoul. Rintoul is stepping down at the end of the month for a new job as chief executive of electrode manufacturer GrafTech.
Matthews has been with U. S. Steel for 30 years. In 2007, he was named president and general manager of U. S. Steel Canada. In 2009, he was appointed as president of U. S. Steel Tubular Products and later was promoted as the senior vice president of North American flat rolled operations.
“Doug is the best choice to fill this interim role based on his extensive overall industry experience and prior tenure as head of our tubular products organization. His strong leadership will ensure a smooth transition for U. S. Steel Tubular Products employees and customers,” said chief executive David Burritt.
