U. S. Steel Names VP Procurement, Raw Materials & Real Estate

United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Michael J. Hatcher as Vice President—Procurement, Raw Materials & Real Estate, effective April 1.

In his new position, Hatcher (51) will oversee procurement, raw materials purchasing and real estate activities and continue to be based at the company's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh. Hatcher, who will report to Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer John H. Goodish, will succeed Christopher J. Navetta, whose retirement was recently announced.

"With a strong background in finance and accounting and recent experience in strategic planning and business development, Mike will bring a unique perspective to these functions, which play an important role in our company's success," said Goodish.

Hatcher joined Marathon Oil Co. in 1980 as a financial analyst, moving on to become an auditor in 1982, the year that U. S. Steel acquired Marathon Oil. He was later promoted to Senior Financial Representative (1985) at U. S. Steel's headquarters; Manager of Treasury Operations (1989); Treasurer of USX Realty Development Group (1990); and Director of Corporate Financial Analysis (1994); and Treasurer of Marathon Oil (1996).

Hatcher later assumed the position of Assistant Treasurer—Corporate Finance (1998) and Assistant Controller—Corporate Accounting (January 2002). He was named to his most recent position, General Manager—Business Development, in June 2002.

Hatcher earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in finance from Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., in 1979 and 1980, respectively.
