Feb. 6, 2007 — United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Christopher J. Masciantonio to the position of General Manager—State Government Affairs.

In his new position, which was effective Feb. 1, Masciantonio will oversee the company's representation before state and local governments. U. S. Steel is currently represented in Alabama, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.

"Chris's experience working with state and local elected officials on a broad range of issues important to the manufacturing industry, coupled with his background in public service, position him perfectly to manage this important function," said Straub. "Under his leadership, we expect to better focus our company's efforts to address public policy issues important to manufacturers and more effectively participate in the decision making process at the state and local level."

Masciantonio, 43, began his career with U. S. Steel in 1989 as a Management Associate at the company's Mon Valley Works. Later that year he began working as an attorney in the arbitration section of the company's corporate labor relations department in Pittsburgh. In 1994, he was named Department Manager of Labor Relations, Workers' Compensation and Productivity Improvement at the Mon Valley Works’ Clairton Plant.

In 1995, Masciantonio accepted an appointment by Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Ridge to serve as Director of the governor's Office of Labor-Management Cooperation. Two years later, he was named Deputy Secretary of the
Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, and in that capacity served as a senior advisor to the governor.

In 2001, Masciantonio returned to the company as Manager—Government Affairs and advanced to Director—Government Affairs and Public Policy for Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania and West Virginia, a position he held until his most recent advancement. Masciantonio will continue reporting to Terrence D. Straub, Senior Vice President—Public Policy & Governmental Affairs.

Masciantonio is a 1985 graduate of St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., where he received a bachelor's degree in political science. He also holds a master's degree in public administration from the University of Pittsburgh's Graduate School of Public and International Affairs and a law degree from Capital University Law School.
He was admitted to the Pennsylvania Bar in November 1989.
