U. S. Steel Eyes Potential Hydrogen, Carbon Capture Projects
06/29/2021 - United States Steel Corporation will work with Norwegian energy producer Equinor to explore the potential for carbon capture and storage (CCS) and hydrogen projects in the greater Pittsburgh region.
In an announcement Tuesday, U. S. Steel said a memorandum of understanding with Equinor affiliate Equinor US Holdings Inc. will allow the two to assess the technological and commercial possibilities for hydrogen and carbon capture and storage systems. They'll cast an eye to creating a regional hub anchored in the Monongahela River valley, but covering southwestern Pennsylvania, eastern Ohio and northern West Virginia, U. S. Steel added.
“The industry leaders recognize the potential for natural gas coupled with CCS to significantly reduce carbon emissions. The companies plan to explore and demonstrate the potential opportunities for natural gas when coupled with CCS to achieve decarbonization goals,” the company said.
