U. S. Steel Expands Weathered Metal Series for Architectural Applications

In a joint project with Precoat Metals, United States Steel Corp. has launched its Weathered Metal Series™, which is suitable for architects, building designers, and structural engineers looking to incorporate weathered metals in their work.

Demand for weathered steels has grown in recent years, according to U. S. Steel; the company claims to be a leader in developing these products and bringing them to market. In 2005, U. S. Steel developed COR-TEN AZP® Prepainted Steel Sheet as an enhanced product to COR-TEN® steel and other weathering steels for architectural roofing and siding applications.

Created by coil-coating GALVALUME® coated steel sheet substrate, COR-TEN AZP is designed to provide builders with the color and texture of weathering steel, while maintaining the structural integrity of the thin-gauge steel and eliminating the wait time previously required for nature to alter the product's appearance.

The weathered metal offering has now been expanded to include weathered copper (COPPER-TEN™) and weathered galvanized steel (GALV-TEN™). All three products are available in two stages of aging—moderately weathered "Raw" and more heavily weathered "Robust". As with the original COR-TEN AZP, these new offerings incorporate cool pigment technology.

United States Steel Corp., headquartered in Pittsburgh, Pa., manufactures a wide variety of flat-rolled and tubular steel products, coke, and taconite pellets at facilities in North America and Central Europe. It has an annual worldwide raw steelmaking capability of 31.7 million net tons.

Precoat Metals is a leading supplier of coil coating services to the building products, container, transportation, appliance, and manufactured products industries.
