U. S. Steel Chooses Arkansas for Site of US$3 Billion Mill

U. S. Steel announced their plans for the US$3 billion investment in September 2021. According to the company, the state-of-the-art 3- million-ton mini-mill will feature twin electric arc furnaces, an endless casting and rolling line, and finishing operations. Combined with Big River Steel, the Arkansas campus will transform into a sustainable “mega mill” capable of producing 6.3 million tons of steel per year, U. S. Steel said.
 
U. S. Steel president and chief executive David Burritt said, “With this location selected and shovels ready, we are reshaping the future of steelmaking. We had numerous competitive site options, but Osceola offers our customers incomparable advantages.”
 
U. S. Steel said it expects to begin construction this quarter and target a 2024 completion date.
