U. S. Steel Announces Global Raw Materials Appointments

United States Steel Corp. announced two management changes in its global raw materials organization, including the appointment of Steven A. McFatridge as General Manager—Raw Materials for U. S. Steel's European operations. William J. McFadden is replacing McFatridge as General Manager—Raw Materials for U. S. Steel's North American operations.
 
In their new positions, which were effective May 1, both McFatridge and McFadden will report to Vice President—Procurement, Raw Materials & Real Estate Michael J. Hatcher.
 
In his new role, McFatridge will oversee all raw materials purchasing activities for U. S. Steel's European operations, including U. S. Steel Kosice in the Slovak Republic and U. S. Steel Serbia in the Republic of Serbia. In his new position, McFadden will be responsible for raw materials purchasing activities for U. S. Steel's North American operations.
 
McFatridge, 56, began his U. S. Steel career in 1974 as a management associate for the Elgin, Joliet and Eastern Railway Company (EJ&E). Over the next 29 years, he advanced through increasingly responsible positions at EJ&E, in the accounting and finance organizations at the former South Works and at Gary Works, the purchasing department at the company's Merrillville, Ind., location, and the accounting, finance and business planning organizations at USS-POSCO Industries, a U. S. Steel joint venture in Pittsburg, Calif.
 
McFatridge relocated to the Slovak Republic in 2003 to serve as Managing Director—Purchasing at U. S. Steel Kosice. He returned to the United States in 2005 as General Manager—Global Materials Management at corporate headquarters.
 
McFatridge was later named Chief Financial Officer of United Spiral Pipe (2007), a spiral welded tubular products joint venture in Pittsburg, Calif., that was formed in April 2007. He advanced to his most recent position, General Manager—Raw Materials at corporate headquarters, in June 2008.
 
McFatridge graduated from Indiana University Bloomington in 1973 with a bachelor's degree in economics. He will relocate to the Slovak Republic.
 
McFadden, 44, joined U. S. Steel in 2001 as a Sales Representative for UEC Technologies, a U. S. Steel engineering and technology subsidiary. He transferred to the Slovak Republic (2003) as Deputy General Manager—Purchasing, Raw Materials at U. S. Steel Kosice, later advancing to General Manager—Procurement (2005). He returned to the United States (2006) after being named to his most recent post, Manager—Raw Materials at corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh.
 
McFadden earned a bachelor's degree in chemistry from West Virginia University in Morgantown, W.Va., in 1988; a master's degree in Russian and East European Studies from Indiana University Bloomington in 1992; and a master's degree in business administration from the University of Pittsburgh in 1993. He will be based at U. S. Steel's corporate headquarters in Pittsburgh.
