U. S. Steel’s Lone Star Tubular Operations Awarded CEO’s Safety Excellence Award

The award is presented annually by the company to the facility with the best safety record for the previous year.

U. S. Steel CEO Mario Longhi Awards CEO Safety Excellence Award to Lone Star Tubular Operations.

"Winning the CEO Safety Excellence Award is a major milestone in Lone Star Tubular Operations' safety journey," said Mario Longhi, president and chief executive officer, as he presented the award. "Texans are proud and want to be the best.  You make the best steel products in the world.  You used that pride and determination to help transform this facility's safety performance."

Lone Star Tubular Operations, located in Lone Star, Texas, achieved a 2013 OSHA recordable injury rate of 1.01, and a zero days away from work rate.  Brent Sansing, plant manager, Lone Star Tubular Operations, accepted the award on behalf of the approximately 1,100 employees.

In addition to presenting the CEO Safety Excellence Award, Longhi took the opportunity to discuss the pending trade case regarding the dumping of oil country tubular goods (OCTG) that is before the Department of Commerce.

"There is something that is threatening all of the great work being done here — the seemingly never ending flood of unfairly traded imported tubular products," said Longhi.  He urged employees to write to their elected officials and demand action, and ensure fair market competition.
