U.S. Senate Steel Caucus Hosts Capitol Hill Reception
09/20/2013 - On 12 September, Senate Steel Caucus Co-Chairs Senators Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Jeff Sessions (R-AL), and Vice Chairs Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Pat Toomey (R-PA), hosted an informal meet-and-greet reception on Capitol Hill for current and perspective Senate Steel Caucus Members, as well as representatives from the steel industry.
Senators Joe Donnelly (D-IN), Bob Casey (D-PA), Roger Wicker (R-MS), who all have a strong steel presence in their home states, were also in attendance.
From the steel industry, representatives included John Ferriola, CEO, Nucor; Mike Rippey, president and CEO, ArcelorMittal USA; Mike Rehwinkel, executive chairman, EVRAZ North America; Ward “Tim” Timken, chairman, The Timken Company; as well as Tom Gibson, president and CEO, American Iron and Steel Institute and other industry associations members.
As the Caucus has been recently reinvigorated, the reception was an opportunity for Members and senior steel industry executive to discuss currently policy challenges impacting the industry, like energy, trade, tax and the environment, and challenges the industry faces. The Senate Steel Caucus, like its House counterpart, is a bipartisan organization which serves as a forum to discuss and address public policy issues impacting the steel industry and its workers.
Later that evening, American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) AISI members also heard from former Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood at a dinner coinciding with a meeting of steel industry executives on the AISI Policy and Planning Committee.
