U.S. Import Volumes Fell in 2020, AISI Says
02/02/2021 - U.S. steel imports fell 21.2% last year, dropping to 22 million short tons, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Citing preliminary U.S. Census Bureau data, the institute said finished steel imports also declined in 2020, falling to 16.1 million short tons. It estimates that full-year import market share stood at 18%.
The top five imported products, based on volume, were ingots, billets and slabs; hot-dipped galvanized sheet and strip; hot-rolled sheet; cold-rolled sheet; and oil country tubular goods.
