U.S. Commerce Department Sets Duties on Large-Diameter Pipe
02/25/2019 - The U.S. Department of Commerce has finalized anti-dumping duties on large-diameter welded pipe from four countries.
In a final determination issued last week, the Commerce Department set duties ranging from 4.6% to 20.4% on large-diameter pipe from Canada, Turkey, Greece and Korea.
“The strict enforcement of U.S. trade law is a primary focus of the Trump administration. Since the beginning of the current administration, Commerce has initiated 137 new anti-dumping and countervailing duty investigations,” the department said in a statement.
The investigation arose on a complaint from the American Line Pipe Producers Association, which includes American Cast Iron Pipe Co., Berg Spiral Pipe Corp./Berg Steel Pipe Corp., Dura-Bond Industries and Stupp Corp.
Greens Bayou Pipe Mill, JSW Steel (USA) Inc., Skyline Steel, Trinity Products LLC and Welspun Tubular LLC also were part of the complaint.
“Commerce’s final determinations confirm that subject imports from these countries are unfairly priced, and most are subsidized as well,” said Tim Brightbill, a partner with law firm Wiley Rein LLP, which represented domestic producers.
China and India also were named in the complaint, and the Commerce Department in November set anti-dumping duties of 132.63% for China and 50.6% for India.
