U.S. Commerce Department Affirms Rebar Tariffs
07/21/2017 - The U.S. Department of Commerce on Friday set final antidumping margins of 3.5% on imported rebar from Taiwan.
“The United States can no longer sit back and watch as its essential industries like steel are destroyed by foreign companies unfairly selling their products in the U.S. markets,” said U.S. Commerce Department Secretary Wilbur Ross.
“We will continue to take action on behalf of U.S. industry to defend American businesses, their workers and our communities adversely impacted by unfair imports.”
The margin applies to all Taiwanese rebar producers, except one, Lo-Toun Steel and Iron Works Co. Ltd., which faces a margin of slightly more than 32%.
The case arose on a September 2016 complaint from members of the Rebar Trade Action Coalition -- Byer Steel Group Inc., Commercial Metals Co., Gerdau, Nucor Corp. and Steel Dynamics Inc.
According to the Commerce Department, Taiwanese imports rose from 5,935 metric tons in 2014 to 115,645 metric tons in 2016.
The U.S. International Trade Commission is to make its final determination the case later this summer.
