U.S. Cold Rolled Producers Injured by Imports, U.S. Trade Commission Finds
06/22/2016 - American producers have been harmed by unfairly traded imports of cold rolled sheet from China and Japan, the U.S. International Trade Commission ruled on Wednesday.
The commission's final determination upholds a previous decision from the Department of Commerce, which found that overseas producers were undercutting prices and unfairly benefitting from subsidy programs. The department set anti-dumping and countervailing duties of more than 500 percent on all Chinese producers and anti-dumping duties of 71.35 percent on all Japanese producers.
All six commissioners voted in the affirmative.
The decision arises from a complaint filed by five U.S. producers – AK Steel Corp., United States Steel Corp., Nucor Corp., Steel Dynamics Inc., and ArcelorMittal USA – last year.
The United Steelworkers union also supported the complaint.
“Too many of our competitors illegally employ actions that undermine our markets and take our jobs. Today's decision addresses an important product segment in our domestic steel sector,” said USW International President Leo Gerard in a statement.
