U.K. Mill Testing Biomass-Based Coke
06/01/2022 - U.K.-based LIBERTY Specialty Steels is trialling a new biomass-based coke at its Rotherham facility, according to the company that makes it.
In a statement, solid fuels and refractory repair specialist CPL Industries said it has delivered a 50-metric-ton shipment of its Ecoke to the facility.
Ecoke product is a manufactured fuel that contains 30% fully renewable, sustainably sourced biomass. Ecoke’s carbon emissions are up to 30% lower than traditional fossil-based coke and anthracite, the company said.
“Ecoke provides an immediate path to decarbonization and we are committed to a program of product development and investment to deliver further advances in biofuels in order to exceed industry expectations for the coming years,” said Jason Sutton, chief executive of CPL Industries Solid Fuels.
