Tyasa Puts New Cold-Rolling Mill on Order
09/13/2016 - Mexico’s Talleres y Aceros S.A. de C.V. has awarded a contract to Primetals Technologies for a new reversing cold rolling mill at its Ixtaczoquitlan, Veracruz, mini-mill.
According to Primetals, the single-stand, 4-high mill will be capable of rolling 200,000 metric tons of high-strength and low-carbon steels per year. It will be capable of producing strips in thicknesses of between 0.3 and 1 mm and in widths of between 900 and 1,650 mm.
“The production of extremely flats strips is ensured by advanced work roll bending, multizone cooling of the work rolls and continuous flatness measurements, combined with special technology packages, such as automatic flatness control,” Primetals said in a statement.
Primetals will supply the process equipment and electrical and automation packages. It also will oversee installation and start-up. The new mill is to be put into service by early 2018.
The Ixtaczoquitlan mini-mill is one of Tyasa’s two production sites. It put a new electric arc furnace into service there in 2014. It also began erecting a Castrip ultra-thin cast strip mill in 2015.
