Two Named to U. S. Steel Executive Management Team
02/03/2017 - United States Steel Corp. has appointed two senior directors to its executive management team, the Pittsburgh-based steelmaker announced on Friday.
In a statement, the company said that James F. Dudek has been named vice president for asset revitalization and manufacturing excellence and that Pipasu H. Soni has been named vice president of finance. Both appointments were effective 1 February 2017.
“Jim and Pipasu have made key contributions to U. S. Steel’s Carnegie Way transformation,” chief financial officer David B. Burritt said in a statement. “Their new roles highlight the continued emphasis we will place on improving our balance sheet and driving value for our customers, stockholders and employees by improving the things that matter most to them: safety, reliability, delivery, quality and cost.”
Dudek is a U. S. Steel veteran, having been with the company for 20 years. In his new role, he will work with the company’s commercial units on developing and implementing an asset revitalization strategy. He’ll also oversee product quality for U. S. Steel’s North American flat-rolled operations and push ahead a companywide, reliability-centered maintenance program.
He’ll continue to lead the company’s engineering and Carnegie Way transformation organizations, a role he played in his most recent position as managing director of strategic planning and support.
Dudek also belongs to the Association for Iron & Steel Technology and serves as the second vice president on its board of directors. He holds a bachelor’s degree in metallurgical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in business administration from DePaul University.
Soni joined U. S. Steel in April 2016 as managing director of financial planning and analysis. He’ll retain responsibility for those functions along with oversight for strategy and business development. But he will now also be in charge of corporate controllership, corporate risk management and treasury functions.
Prior to joining U. S. Steel, Soni spent six years at Pentair, where he advanced through significant director-level positions in strategy and finance. In 2012, he was appointed vice president of business analysis and planning and was responsible for corporate financial planning and analysis as well as operations and commercial finance.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tennessee Technological University, master’s degree in business administration from Cornell University and a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from Clemson University.
