Tubemaker Starts Up Revamped ERW Line
01/20/2017 - SMS group has completed upgrades to a high-frequency ERW tube line for Italy’s Arvedi Tubi Acciaio.
In a statement, SMS said it was contracted to expand the line’s size capacity, taking it from 12.75-inch diameters to 14-inch diameters. The project also included installation of a replacement cutting device in the profile tube cutting section. The work took four weeks to complete.
“Thanks to this upgrade, plant availability has become even better allowing us to respond to specific requests of our customers even more quickly and flexibly,” said Arvedi Tubi Acciaio chief executive Mario Caldonazzo.
Not only will it be able to produce bigger tubes, it now can make 300 mm square tubes and 400-by-200 mm rectangular tubes in wall thicknesses of up to 15 mm, according to SMS.
