Tubacero Building New Plant in Monterrey, Mexico

With an investment of US$90 million, Mexico’s Tubacero, which manufactures large diameter pipes for the petroleum, electricity, mining and construction industries, began the installation of a new plant in Monterrey.
Nuevo Leon governor Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz and company director Teodoro Gonzalez Garza explained that the center will have a production capacity of 200,000 tonnes of spiral pipe, ranging from 1 to 144 inches in diameter.
Medina de la Cruz said this is the first major investment in the Monterrey Interpuerto; it will generate 750 jobs, of which 350 will be direct and 400 will be indirect, he said.
The state government is supporting the project with a US$3.7 million grant for the land within the Interpuerto and with training grants. State tax exemption is also being provided, but a time table was not provided.
The director said the plant will have two mills using American technology, and will be the only plant in the world for processing steel coils up to 2.4 meters wide.
Gonzalez Garza stressed that Tubacero is a 100% Mexican company with more than 59 years as a worldwide manufacturer of carbon steel welded pipe.
Currently, the company exports to the U.S., Australia, Ecuador, Chil, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Guatemala, Colombia and Bangladesh.
The company operates five plants with an installed capacity of 350,000 tonnes per year.
