Trump to Roll Out 25% Imported Vehicle Tariff in April
03/27/2025 - U.S. President Donald Trump said he’ll impose 25% tariffs on vehicles imported into the U.S., with the new measure taking effect 3 April.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the tariffs would apply to fully assembled vehicles and automotive parts. However, components that are compliant with the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement will be temporarily exempted until the Commerce Department “establishes a process to apply tariffs to their non-U.S. content,” White House deputy press secretary Harrison Fields wrote, according to The Journal.
The Journal said that nearly half of new passenger vehicles sold in the U.S. in 2024 were assembled outside the U.S.
