Trailer Manufacturer Claims Swedish Steel Prize

Mantella executives accepted the prize during a dinner ceremony this week.

In a statement, SSAB said the trailer design represents a new generation of tipper and body designs.
SSAB said the trailer, dubbed Stratosphere 3.0, has a chassis made entirely of high-strength steel with formed Z-beams instead of the classic welded I profile.

"Eliminating the welded beams gives vital improvements in fatigue resistance as well as production efficiency. It also provides an increase in load capacity, while maintaining a low weight."

SSAB also said the trailer body is made from wear-resistant steel, making it more durable.

“Skilled design work, smart production methods and fully utilizing the advantages of high-strength and wear-resistant steel made it possible,” said Eva Petursson, Swedish Steel Prize jury chairwoman and head of SSAB’s strategic research and development.
