Toolmaker Introduces New Cutter Material
12/07/2015 - German precision tooling manufacturer MAPAL has developed a new line of cutter material coated by way of chemical vapor deposition, the company has announced.
In a statement, MAPAL said the material, HC720, HC725, HC730 and HC735, has a highly heat-resistant α-aluminum oxide coating and is tailored for boring into cast material.
“Cutting edges with the new coating offer the potential for a significant increase in the cutting speed during boring, even with dry machining. Machining is easily possible with a cutting speed of 300 m/minute, thus offering a considerable boost in productivity,” the company said.
The material also allows for longer tool lives, the company said. The MAPAL product range of indexable blades for ISO boring tools is available in the new line of cutting material.
