TKS Restarts Fire-Damaged Coating Line

ThyssenKrupp Steel recently retuned its electrolytic coating line No. 2 (EBA 2) in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth back into operation. The first coil was produced eight days ahead of schedule.

The line had been badly damaged by fire on September 14, 2005. Following the fire, a reconstruction strategy was drafted. The reconstruction strategy received approval in March 2006.

Following approval, reconstruction was completed in just nine months. This achievement is attributed largely to the commitment of employees from all ThyssenKrupp Steel specialist departments who carried out much of the work themselves. The flexibility and efficiency of numerous suppliers from the Rhine-Ruhr area also played an important part, particularly for the companies gefeba from Gladbeck and ThyssenKrupp Anlagenservice, who restored the line’s fully destroyed technical systems in a very short time.

EBA 2 specializes in extremely high-quality products for the auto industry, such as thin film coated sheet. In the future, ThyssenKrupp Steel plans to equip the line with modules for further innovative coating technologies.
