Timken to Enhance Reliability Solutions Offering

The Timken Co. has expanded its reliability solutions offering to provide maintenance consulting and training to its industrial customers.

Through an agreement with Ivara Corp., Timken reliability engineers will be certified to deliver specialized services and software to Timken customers. Prime targets for the service are manufacturing facilities for the primary metals industries, as well as cement, oil and gas, chemical, mining, pulp and paper, and food processing industries and multiple types of equipment used in these facilities.

Timken will use the RCM2™ methodology to determine the maintenance requirements of the many pieces of operating machinery within a plant. Timken also will offer a series of hands-on training courses filled with practical, ready-to-use maintenance practices. The courses will be aimed at all levels of maintenance and reliability sophistication.

Timken also will provide implementation consulting on asset-performance management software. The software will provide a cohesive and integrated platform to develop, implement and manage an equipment reliability program. The software uses predictive- and condition-based maintenance capabilities to monitor machine performance, and maintenance personnel are then prompted to perform the right work at the right time.

“Unplanned downtime and random equipment failure can erode a customer’s profitability,” said Daniel E. Muller, President—Distribution and Services at Timken. “Timken’s new consulting service greatly enhances our reliability offering and allows us to bring a broader spectrum of services to a global audience looking for our expertise.”

Timken will introduce this new service offering throughout 2008 in North America and India. Timken expects to add other regions in 2009 and beyond.

“We are pleased to have a global leader such as Timken join us as an implementation partner and become part of our network of reliability experts,” said Gerry Bleau, Ivara Corp.’s CEO. “Together we will support customers’ asset-performance goals and help drive bottom-line results.”

In addition to reliability consulting, Timken’s broad portfolio of condition-monitoring solutions includes portable instruments, continuous monitoring devices, online systems, reliability services, and remote monitoring. Applicable to a wide range of industries, these solutions can help to create customer value by helping to maximize uptime, reduce maintenance costs and improve productivity.

Ivara is a leading provider ofasset performance management software, including Ivara EXP Enterprise, and services including Ivara RCM2™, a leading reliability strategy development methodology. RCM2 is delivered exclusively by The Aladon Network, Ivara’s global network of reliability experts.

Timken provides innovative friction management and power transmission products and services. The company’s approximately 25,000 employees generated sales of $5.2 billion in 2007 from its operations in 27 countries.
