thyssenkrupp Uhde to Supply Desulfurization Plant for ArcelorMittal Belgium

“This project marks another milestone in making our plant in [Ghent] more environmentally friendly. It is a major effort for the whole industry, and we are taking diligent steps toward our aim to reduce SOx emissions,” Jeroen Van Lishout, chief operating officer primary for ArcelorMittal Belgium, said.

The site’s original coke plant was built by thyssenkrupp Uhde 25 years ago, which operated under the name Thyssen Still Otto at the time.

“We are glad for the continued trust of our customer ArcelorMittal,” said Michael Petzinna, executive director of the coke plant and inorganic acids operating unit of thyssenkrupp Uhde. “With our advanced technologies and project execution capabilities we can deliver a technical solution that is tailor-made for their needs.”

thyssenkrupp Uhde will install its CYCLASULF for desulfurization and MONOCLAUS for a highly efficient sulfur recovery.

The new units are planned to go into operation in July 2023.
