ThyssenKrupp Tandem
Mill
Back in Ramp-up Phase
Jan. 26, 2004 — ThyssenKrupp Steel recently commenced cold trials on the tandem mill at the company’s Dortmund cold rolling facility. The Dortmond tandem mill had been damaged by fire on November 26, 2003.
The tandem mill has been back in production on a ramp-up curve since January 7, with product quality at the customary level. TKS intends to bring the mill back to full capacity in the next two months. However, this will necessitate further technical optimization.
ThyssenKrupp acknowledged the dedicated efforts of its employees as well as the outside contractors involved in the rebuild for getting the mill restarted so quickly. With a capacity of 2.3 million tonnes, the combined pickling line/tandem mill in Dortmund is ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG’s most powerful cold rolling mill, primarily serving customers in the automotive sector.
