ThyssenKrupp Steel Confirms Major Fire at Electrolytic Coating Line

In the course of the evening, 130 firefighters were deployed from the plant fire department, the Duisburg municipal fire service, the plant fire department of Bayer Uerdingen – which has large water cannons – and the voluntary fire service. The fire was brought under control at around 11.00 p.m. and had been fully extinguished by the early hours of the morning.
The fire was prevented from spreading to neighboring lines. Other than one slight injury to a firefighter, no one was hurt.
In its preliminary report, the company said it is too early to provide information on the cause of the fire and the amount of damage caused, although parts of the shop roof had collapsed. In addition, the company said that production had been stopped in this facility for the time being.
