ThyssenKrupp Starts Coated Production
04/15/2011 - ThyssenKrupp Steel USA recently started production of its first coated prime coil on hot dip galvanizing line (HDGL) number 1. The HDGL lines are the last of the carbon steel start-up’s mills to begin production.
ThyssenKrupp Steel USA announced that on March 31 it produced its first coated prime coil on hot dip galvanizing line (HDGL) number 1, which has since been running in steady operation. The HDGL lines are the last of the carbon steel start-up’s mills to begin production. The facility’s hot strip mill began production in July 2010, followed by its cold roll mill in September 2010.
Consisting of four lines when fully operational, the HDGL applies various zinc-based rust preventive coatings to carbon steel coils to be used primarily in the automotive, construction, and appliance industries.
When the three remaining HDGLs begin production later this year, the facility will be fully operational, providing carbon steel products such as hot rolled bands and pickled coils, full finished cold rolled as well as galvanized, galvannealed, aluminized, and Galvalume products. The company also will produce a range of steel grades to include mild steels, high strength, and advanced high strength steels, as well as high carbon and structural steels.
