Primetals Technologies said in a statement that it will convert the existing cycloconverter drive systems on stand Nos. 7 and 9 at thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg’s medium-wide hot strip mill. The drives are being switched to medium-voltage systems and will be integrated into the mill’s existing basic automation. 

“(The project will enable) the motor powers and torques previously specified to roll the complete portfolio of products to be reduced. This was not the only saving on investment: the possibility of using existing spare parts, such as motors and transformers, with the drive system supplied by Primetals Technologies was also examined jointly with thyssenkrupp Hohenlimburg,” Primetals
Technologies said. 

The project is to be completed in December 2021.
