ThyssenKrupp Services Launches Materials Services Business in Serbia

ThyssenKrupp Services, in a continuing expansion of its materials services business, is now being represented in Serbia through the new ThyssenKrupp Materials doo, effective January 2009.

The company’s access to the Serbian market will be serviced from a new greenfield facility in Indjija, some 40 kilometers northwest of Belgrade. Situated on an area of over 17,000 square meters, the ultramodern materials processing and logistics center has its own rail link and will be capable of storing around 15,000 tonnes of materials in the medium-term. The facility will employ an expanded workforce of about 60 that will be led by a management team comprising Stevan Sefer and Petar Radovanovic.

“This move means that our network in C&E Europe and, specifically the Balkans, is now even more closely knit,” commented Joachim Limberg, Vice-Chairman of the ThyssenKrupp Services Executive Board. “Right from the start we will be concentrating on high-grade rolled-steel products, including complex value-adding processing services. These products will then be followed within short by nonferrous metals and plastics to embrace a full lineup.”

“Belgrade is the nation’s industrial heart,” added Limberg. “From Serbia, we will be serving neighboring countries such as Croatia, and Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

With a population around 7.4 million, Serbia has in recent years enjoyed vigorous economic growth and is increasingly investing in its national infrastructure.

ThyssenKrupp Services has for many years been successfully represented by materials services companies in C&E Europe and the Balkans, with a total workforce of over 1000 employed in Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Ukraine, and, now, Serbia.

With around 800 locations in 50 countries, the ThyssenKrupp’s Services segment concentrates on supplying materials and industrial services as well as commodities for production and manufacturing companies. The segment comprises four business units: Materials Services International, Materials Services North America, Industrial Services, and Special Products. In addition to the distribution and sale of rolled and stainless steel, pipes and tubes, nonferrous metals and plastics, the segment also provides a range of services from value-adding processing and logistics to complete supply-chain management. The Industrial Services business embraces complex maintenance activities and production-related services such as materials handling, preassembly and just-in-time delivery for manufacturing enterprises. Services also include worldwide supply of metallurgical commodities and innovative technical systems solutions.
