thyssenkrupp Receives Approval of Climate Targets
09/11/2019 - Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) confirmed that with this approval, thyssenkrupp is also acting in line with the goals established at the 2015 Paris climate conference.
thyssenkrupp’s aim is to become climate-neutral by 2050. The company intends to do this by transforming its steel production toward direct reduction with hydrogen, carbon capture and using technology alongside energy efficiency measures, as well as the increased use of renewables.
“Green hydrogen plays a major role in our strategy,” says Reinhold Achatz, chief technology officer of thyssenkrupp. “The production of sufficient quantities will require the expansion of renewable energies at a much faster rate in Germany than currently planned.”
