ThyssenKrupp Nirosta plans to strengthen its Dillenburg cold-rolling plant with an almost 18 million euro investment in a new skinpass mill. Preparatory work has begun and the order has been placed with equipment manufacturer BWG Bergwerk-und Walzwerk-Maschinenbau GmbH.
The new skinpass mill for the downstream treatment of cold-rolled stainless steel is scheduled to start production in early 2012.
The company says that the market trend for stainless strip is toward materials with higher yield strength and improved flatness, and that these requirements can no longer be adequately met with the old skinpass mill, which was built in the 1960s.
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta decided to install a new unit for thicknesses from 0.20 to 3.50 mm. The investment is expected to improve strip quality, increase productivity, and allow customer requirements to be better met.
