ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Announces Price Increase for Flat Stainless Products

Feb. 27, 2004 — ThyssenKrupp Nirosta GmbH, Germany, and ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni SpA, Italy, will raise their base prices by 50 euros per tonne for deliveries from May 1, 2004. The price increase applies to all flat-rolled products of stainless and heat-resistant steels for delivery to all countries in Europe.

The increase is prompted by continued substantial cost increases for starting materials – in particular scrap – which are not covered by alloy surcharges, as well as significantly increased energy costs. The increase does not include the development of alloying elements, which will be invoiced as previously in the form of alloy surcharges.

Part of ThyssenKrupp’s Stainless Steel business unit, the two European stainless companies produce flat-rolled products of stainless and heat-resistant steels and rank among the leading manufacturers in Europe. In fiscal 2002/2003, ThyssenKrupp Nirosta produced 1.1 million tonnes of stainless flat products and achieved sales of 1.8 billion euros. ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni had sales of 1.5 billion euros and production of just less than 1 million tonnes.
