Merz was previously thyssenkrupp’s chairwoman of the supervisory board, a position she has held since February 2019. She takes over for former chief executive Guido Kerkhoff. 

Merz’s career has spanned decades of experience in multiple managerial and executive roles, including chief executive officer of Chassis Brakes International from 2012 to 2015. She has worked as an independent business consultant since 2015.
