ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik Helps Meet Rising Demand for Raw Materials
09/30/2011 - ThyssenKrupp’s Ennigerloh location, which develops machines and plants for processing raw materials, will supply and erect five gyratory crushers over the next few years for a copper mine in Indonesia.
ThyssenKrupp’s Ennigerloh location, which develops machines and plants for processing raw materials, has been working hard to help meet the rising demand for raw materials, particularly in regions such as the BIC countries (Brazil, India and China), which are currently developing at a very high rate.
For example, ThyssenKrupp engineers from Ennigerloh will erect five gyratory crushers over the next few years in a copper mine located within eyeshot of the Puncak Jaya, one of the highest mountains in Indonesia. Each of the gyratory crushers weighs over 350 tonnes and has the dimensions of a house. They crush meter-sized pieces of copper ore into football-sized stones for further processing. The operator of the mine is the American company Freeport, one of the leading suppliers of gold, copper and molybdenum. This order for gyratory crushers is ThyssenKrupp’s largest to date for the Ennigerloh location.
"These large-scale projects are an enormous challenge and can only be carried out by a team of committed experts", said Detlef Papajewski, Vice President Crushing Technology. "This begins with the sales engineer, who travels around the world, meeting with customers to agree on the exact technical specifications of the plants. Implementing these specifications is then the job of the development engineers, who dimension and design the gyratory crushers accordingly. The link between Ennigerloh and the customer is the project manager, who coordinates the entire project from the beginning and ensures that the gyratory crushers go into operation on time in Indonesia".
Other Ennigerloh departments are also involved in each project, including the Erection Department, which is in charge of assembly and commissioning, the Technical Documentation Department, which is responsible for creating assembly and operating instructions, and the sales staff, who are responsible for financial processing.
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik has sold more than 30 machines all over the world that are similar to the five gyratory crushers that will be supplied to Indonesia in the coming years. Among the company's customers are worldwide leading mine operators such as Rio Tinto in Australia, Codelco in Chile, LKAB in Sweden, Xstrata and Heidelberger Cement.
“We are constantly developing new processes and products which are even more efficient and resource-saving and which will continue to cover the growing demand for raw materials in the future,” added Papajewski.
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik GmbH’s Processing Business Unit has approximately 200 employees and is located in Ennigerloh, Germany. The unit develops high-performance processing plants for crushing, grading and transporting rock, ore and other mineral resources.
ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik is part of ThyssenKrupp AG’s Plant Technology Business Area. With more than 2800 employees worldwide ThyssenKrupp Fördertechnik is one of the leading suppliers of plants and systems for the mining, processing and handling of raw materials and minerals.
