ThyssenKrupp Executive Reported on Board Missing Air France Flight

News sources are reporting that ThyssenKrupp executive Erich Walter Heine was one of the passengers aboard Air France Flight 447, which disappeared over the Atlantic Ocean on Monday, June 1.

Heine, 42, was Chairman of Companhia Siderurgica do Atlantico (CSA), a new five million tonnes/year steel mill scheduled to start up later this year in Brazil. The facility is a joint venture between ThyssenKrupp and Companhia Vale do Rio Doce (VALE).

Heine worked for South African Iscor Ltd. both before and after the company’s 2006 acquisition by Mittal Steel, including positions as General Manager of Iscor’s Newcastle site and General Manager of the Vanderbijlpark site, where Mittal Steel South Africa was later headquartered. He was appointed to the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG in 2006, with responsibility for ThyssenKrupp Steel’s Steelmaking Business Unit.
